2016 has been a roller coaster of a year! Shooting 95, 000 images, collaborating with super talented designers, models and makeup artists. Making new friends along the way and losing some. I thought it was only fair that I put together my favorite images from the year, these not necessarily being the best images technically or what was asked for! Can’t wait for what 2017 has in store for me. Here are my favorite images from 2016 Stay safe and enjoy the festive season!
NZ streetwear label Federation returned to the New Zealand Fashion Week runway after seven years, with their AW17 collection, Birds Versus Bees. It was a fashion-meets-street collection with loads of energy and a local Kiwi vibe from the designer label that knows its market. Featured oversized jackets, long T-shirts and loose pants with a few fur and sequinned pieces. The quirky prints stood out amongst a beautifully wearable colour palette of neutrals and dark undertones and each and every piece in the A/W 17 collection was effortlessly cool Some of my favorites below.
From the first notes of the orchestra until the very last hymn, Hailwood turned the runway into a glimmering and glorious spectacular. The audience gasped as the lights came up and revealed a full choir on stage in shimmery blue dresses, singing in te reo and NZ sign, for Hailwood’s glamorous show. Accompanied by a pianist, they moved into songs in English, and Italian, in the classiest performance of the week. The AW17 collection featured sensual silhouettes with long hems and swaying skirts. Strutting in suede heels shoes, the models exuded modern glamour in shades of navy, beige and green – […]

Excited for my 5th year at New Zealand Fashion Week I wanted to share some helpful tips for new photographers. Fashion shows are live events, and can be, by nature, a stressful affair. Like in wedding photography, if you miss the moment, you miss the moment. The buzzing environment of fashion shows may not be everyone’s cup of tea, though some people thrive in these kinds of situations. I have been shooting 4 fashion weeks a year for the last 2 years now and it’s addictive. So here are some tips that I think would help Avoid using the flash. […]

I was excited and nervous at the same time when the talented designers at Rarefied gave me the brief that they had in mind for their “Ridge” web campaign. Shoot a campaign at the Tangariro Alpine Crossing , what camera gear, what lighting equipment, what if the weather doesn’t hold up were the least of my worries. The crossing is a grueling 19.1 kms and that is no fun when you have to carry camera gear, enough water and a team of 7. We put together a mood board on Pinterest over the next week as we planned the logistics of […]
Last couple of months I have been busy shooting for clients and the creative side to photography had taken a back seat. Don’t get me wrong, shooting jobs is fun but not always as creative as you want it to be. Photographers/Artist often hit the creative block and get trapped by their own thinking. It was a few weeks ago I came across a few old copies of the Vogue magazine and was in awe with the photographs by Patrick Demarchelier. I instantly knew I had to shoot some creative black and white photographs and have the really harsh/contrast light on […]
